Lafayette Sewer Renovations – Phase 12
Central Contra Costa Sanitary District decided to add antimicrobial protection to three new manholes being installed as part of the Phase 12 of the Lafayette Sewer Renovations project. As the newly fabricated manholes had already been placed, an antimicrobial coating was chosen.
Xypex Megamix II with Bio-San mortar was the specified coating product for this application as it is a high strength, chemically resistant mortar which is protected by Xypex’s unique antimicrobial crystalline technology. It was “spin-cast” into place using standard spin-casting equipment and techniques to a thickness of 1” – 1.5” on the walls of the manholes.
As expected, no issues were encountered during installation and the finish of the installed Megamix II with Bio-San was fully acceptable to the utility. This protection is expected to greatly extend the service life of these new manholes.
