The South Lathrop Commons Centre SewagePump Station is a pre-cast structure made ofeight separate elements. The elements consistof a precast slab, six large “box culvert” shapedsections that are stacked to create the chamberitself and a roof. The joints are sealed withflexible waterstop materials and the gapsfilled with Xypex Megamix II with Bio-San to protect the gaskets. This structure is to servicea new large warehousing complex.

In order to protect the concrete structure frommicrobial induced corrosion and to achievewater tightness Xypex Bio-San C500 wasadded to the concrete mix at the Jensen Precast’splant at the time of batching. The Bio-San C500 contains antimicrobial crystallinetechnology which both kills the acid-producingmicrobes which proliferate in sewagestructures as well as providing watertight, chemically resistant concrete with crack-healingproperties.

Jensen Precast reported no operational orother issues in regards to mixing, casting orcuring of the concrete containing Xypex Bio-San C500. The use of Xypex Bio-San C500 isexpected to significantly extend the life as wellas greatly reduce any long term maintenanceof this important new piece of infrastructure.
